After spoken-word music pioneer Gil Scott-Heron died nearly a year ago, pianist Marc Purcelli and poet Bill Arneth had a serendipitous meeting at a bench in Veterans Park. "We met and had the same interest in Gil," Arneth said, "so we started shooting the breeze. "
The two made a connection, built a friendship, went in the studio and recorded a spoken-word poetry album. "He pulled out his book of poems, and there was this title I really liked. I really grooved to it and went back to my piano and played a tune with it in my head."
